Born and raised a ‘city chick,’ living and traveling full-time in a small travel trailer was not what I expected my life to look like!
It wasn’t until Dad passed away, that mom told me that she wanted to move to the country… She wanted to raise chickens and grow her own food!
In truth, I fought the idea – even after we moved to our small farm. However, I quickly learned that I was made for country living!
I found myself enjoying getting my hands in the soil. There’s something fulfilling about planting and growing your own food.
Even raising chickens was a fascinating adventure for me, and I quickly realized that spending time with our chickens was better than therapy!
However, after a few years, the work became too much for mom to handle, so she wanted to travel while she still had her health!
That’s when we decided to leave the homestead behind and hit the open road in our little homestead on wheels!
In spite of the travel, we wanted to use as many of our homesteading skills as possible!
True, we couldn’t bring our chickens with us, but meals can be made from scratch… Foods can be preserved through canning and dehydrating… and, whenever possible, at least some of our favorite herbs and veggies can be grown – with campground approval, of course!
The best thing about this lifestyle, is that when you’re ready to move on, you just hitch up the truck and hit the road again! So, as you can see, this is not exactly your ordinary homestead!
Until next time,
Peace, love, safe travels and happy homesteading!
