WHAT’S FOR SUPPER, AND OTHER RANDOM MUSINGS
What’s for supper?
I wake up with the strangest things on my mind sometimes…
After falling asleep in front of the Telly last night, I woke to find mom sitting in her favorite chair, playing a game on her phone. She’d been awake all night with the all too familiar burning and gas of GERD.
Have you gotten any sleep?
‘No.’ was her reply.
I could see the headlights of the newspaper carriers car coming up our driveway. Signs of fog permeated the night sky.
Fog in the morning gives you an eerie feeling, here on the homestead… as if something from the Walking Dead is about to appear! Yes! I am a fan!
I decided to leave mom to her own devices and went upstairs to my room.
As I opened my Bible, I turned to some passages relating to the word ‘work.’ Something I didn’t finish the day before.
Sounds of our roosters crowing wafted up to my bedroom window… Good morning guys… I’ll be out in a little while…
I THINK ‘THE MAN UPSTAIRS’ IS TRYING TO TELL ME SOMETHING
While reading, my thoughts wondered off to what I would be working on in my design studio today. Saturdays are a day that I designate to creating pieces for my jewelry business.
Yet as I continued my reading, I began to see a pattern emerge…. the words cooking, mealtime, weight control and hospitality kept finding their way to my line of vision…
BACK TO THE DRAWING BOARD; WHAT’S FOR SUPPER?
Now, as I sit here in my office, I find myself wondering ‘What’s for supper.” But not just for supper! I have 3 meals to make today, and I struggle to figure out what to make for myself – – let alone mom!
I thought of making my Country Chicken and Veggie Soup. However, although delicious, I have been eating it a lot lately… I don’t want to get tired of it! It’s my ‘go to’ meal when my GERD is acting up… and yes, it has been acting up!
So, what to make?
Mom and I have very different tastes. She likes hot and spicy. I can’t eat it!
True, back in the day, I could eat a bowl of chili with oodles of jalapenos, and love every bite! But not any more!
If it were up to her, we would live on hot dogs and buttered corn! Yeah, no!
To start, I think I will go back to my Pennsylvania Dutch roots and make a BIG batch of Ham & Green Beans. Mom likes that!
One meal down, two to go.. Hmmmmm…
I’ll have to figure that out later… I just realized, it’s time to go feed the chickens!
Talk to you soon!
